Odessa, located in Pasco County started as a community of open spaces that residents used for ranches and horse farms. But in more recent years, it has grown considerably due to suburban developments brought on by Tampa’s expansion.
The population boomed from 2000 to 2010, increasing nearly 130 percent from 3,000 to 7,000 residents. Odessa’s median household income also rose markedly during that time from about $48,000 to $68,000.
Median home values have also jumped — from $95,000 in 2000 to about $180,000 today.
Founded by a Russian immigrant in the 1880s, Odessa was started as railroad community. Its founder also started St. Petersburg, Florida and named both after places located in Russia.
Odessa also has one of Tampa’s most popular public golf courses, located in the well-known Eagles community. The club offers 36-holes of golf on its two courses, the Lakes and Forest courses. Each course has been crafted to provide two differing playing experiences. The challenging Forest course requires accurate shot making and smart course management skills, while the more traditional Lakes course calls for length and solid ball striking.
